Building Energy Rating (BER) Directory Online

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Welcome to the online Directory of Building Energy Rating Assessors.

Since January 1st 2009, every property in Ireland requires a BER certificate before it can be sold or rented.

What is a BER?

A BER is similar to the energy label for an everyday electrical appliance like a dishwasher or tumble dryer.
BER’s are issued on a scale of A to G with A-rated buildings being the most energy efficient and G the least efficient.

BER Certificate

The BER certificate is the legal document confirming a property’s rating and looks very similar to an energy rating for an appliance
You can download a sample BER Certificate from the SEI website

BER Assessors

Ratings are carried out by specially trained BER assessors, registered by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI).
SEI have the responsibility for training and registering BER assessors under the European Communities (Energy Performance of Buildings) Regulations (SI No 666 of 2006)
It is also SEI’s responsibility to ensure that there are sufficient assessors to meet demand throughout the country.
